Hi Stephen, was the gain control on the Blue Icicle was enough to bring the RE-20 to a nice volume? I’ve heard that you need really high gain levels for an RE-20.

Great review with an equally good variety of photos displaying different angles of the H1. I’ve been watching the Zoom H1 since accidentally stumbling across it on Amazon.com in late June as I was thinking of purchasing the H2. I’m a freelance journalist and currently use a Olympus W321-M digital recorder which I’m looking to upgrade.

A colleague who owns an H2, which I saw for the first time in February this year, had several praises for the device and advised I had nothing to lose by acquiring one as the sound quality was superb for a ‘comparatively cheap’ digital recorder.

I felt disappointed on reading about the quality of the material used in the H1′s manufacture as well as the ‘cheap, plasticky feel’ it has.

But, considering its finer qualities and features outweigh that negative aspect, I’m willing to give it a shot. Waiting to hear what other reviewers have to say about the H1 on its release before rushing out to buy.

Great show as usual. I share the opinion of one of your commenters when they stated that sometimes you answers questions I haven’t had a chance to ask!

Thanks, MAlexander, for your comments. I agree, that might have been a bit harsh to call those who use the general navigation features “disabled or lazy,” but I just don’t find them to be all that useful when it’s so easy just to click on something with the mouse. While there is a benefit to those navigation features, they don’t offer the gigantic advantage you get with dictating text instead of typing.

I appreciate you review, especially since it’s so soon after the release. You have helped me decide to get a copy. I only have one issue with your review – please reconsider using the term “disabled or lazy” to describe folks who use the general navigation features. I’m not disabled, nor lazy, and I love the functions. By reducing the navigation to “disabled and lazy” you discount one of the great features of the product!

Great podcast! Thanks for posting.

I have a question that maybe you will consider for discussion in an upcoming podcast. With Apple announcing updated iMacs with multi-core processors, I am curious as to whether the “average” user will see a difference when using a computer equipped with 4-, 6-, or 12-core processors. Or are they geared towards professionals? Also, is it matter of running the right software able to take advantage of the processing power?
